Don't throw organic material in the trash because, once in a landfill, it decomposes anaerobically producing methane, a potent greenhouse gas.
Recycle clean pizza boxes. Dispose of dirty pizza boxes as unrecyclable waste.
Buy compostable cotton buds only. Don't buy cotton buds with a plastic handle.
Don't buy single-use coffee pods. They are difficult to recycle because they are made of a mix of plastic, aluminum and organic material.
Always accept free compostable shopping bags: take them at home and reuse them to dispose of food scraps or other compostable waste. This could be a bad idea if you have your own compost heap and you cannot rely on your city waste collection service since most compostable shopping bags require industrial composting facilities.
Always reject shopping bags made of plastic, especially if the bags are not meant to be reused; bring your own reusable shopping bags, instead.
